Animal-assisted therapy

New at the Orléans Clinic!

A few weeks ago, our mental health program started offering animal-assisted therapy sessions. In our case, this involves the presence of a therapeutic dog attending certain psychotherapy sessions to help support the relationship between therapist and client, and to meet treatment goals. This is a complementary service offered to interested patients undergoing psychotherapy with Anne Bilodeau. Prior to offering this, we sent our patients a survey to determine if there was any interest; over 350 of you responded, with 84% interested.
We are very happy to have Stella join our team. She is a five year old pug who has overcome a very difficult past, all the while staying open & warm towards humans and keeping her joie de vivre. Stella passed with flying colors the St. John Ambulance pet therapy exam. Not only does she spend time with some of our patients, she also does weekly visits to frail elderly at a local retirement home.

Stella is at our Orléans clinic 1-2 half-days per week and will also be present this fall at certain flu vaccine clinics to help calm nervous patients.

You can also follow her on Instagram at @stella_lapuguette.
